Veneer presence in China:
Bonn/Canton. From March 28 to 31, 2023, the long-time satellite of Cologne-based interzum, interzum Guangzhou, will open in the southern Chinese city of Canton. The megacity of Guangzhou is located in the middle of the important southern Chinese furniture basin of Guangdong. The trade fair has been held annually since 2004 at the Pazhou exhibition center, which now covers an area of around 300,000 m². Before the corona pandemic, it had around 2,000 exhibitors and around 200,000 trade visitors. Until 2020, German as well as international veneer manufacturers and dealers always successfully presented themselves as exhibitors of the pure trade fair. This year, for the first time, the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) will be represented at the trade show with an information booth in the area of the German community booth.
The German joint stand is the only international pavilion at the fair this year. The expected 150 or so other international exhibitors will present their products spread across the large exhibition grounds. In addition to IFN, other German suppliers and manufacturers of woodworking machinery will be showing their product range and innovations for the furniture industry at the "German Pavilion", which is financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics. The German pavilion is therefore expected to attract a large number of visitors and to attract a particularly high level of interest from Chinese trade visitors. The ecological and unique material veneer is also convincing Chinese furniture manufacturers in the medium and high-end product segment for both the domestic and international markets. Exports of Chinese furniture to Germany have been steadily increasing for years and have achieved even more significant success during the corona pandemic. "Even if international trade flows slow down and currently reduce overall, there will always be products that experience global demand. This is especially true for unique veneers that are destined to become beautiful furniture surfaces or elegant interior solutions in other parts of the world, far from their area of origin," says Ursula Geismann, managing director of IFN, commenting, "The uniqueness of veneer should not be denied to any further processor, no matter how far away."
The German joint stand at interzum Guangzhou is traditionally located in Hall 15.1 for suppliers and in Hall 11.1 for woodworking machinery. The IFN information stand welcomes Chinese trade visitors with information and visual material and draws attention to the parent trade fair interzum, which will be held in Cologne in May, where interested parties can get a direct impression of the veneer diversity at IFN member companies.

Today it is supported by European companies from the veneer industry, the trade and the veneer processing industry as well as trade associations of the wood industry.
